Ruth Helen Ickes

Ruth Helen Ickes (Sprauer), 75, of Helena passed away on June 4, 2025 at her daughter’s home, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born on December 5, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Clarence and Edith (Brown) Sprauer.

In 1972, Ruth married Thomas Ickes in Lindsey, Ohio. They shared 52 loving years together, picking on each other as if they never stopped being best friends, until his passing on January 9, 2024.

Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family, riding the golf cart around looking for mushrooms, picking cherries, playing marbles and fishing at her favorite spots. She spent some of her best moments camping and going to the casinos, speaking on the phone with family and friends every day, chatting around the kitchen table and watching her grandkids grow up.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Debra (Chilt) Miller of Fostoria and Thomas R. Ickes Jr. of Luckey; grandchildren, Forest Ickes, Tabitha (Hunter) Mihailoff, Thomas R. Ickes III (Maddie), and Eliana Ickes; great-grandson, Thomas R. Ickes IV; and fur-babies, Muffin and Sugar.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Thomas Ickes Sr., she was preceded in death by her daughter, Helen Marie Ickes; fur baby, Cinnamon, and was the last surviving of her nine siblings.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, 319 W. Madison Street, Gibsonburg, Ohio, 43431, with funeral services beginning at 12 PM.

Ruth will be laid to rest with her husband at Restlawn Memorial Park in Perrysburg at a later date.
