Ruth Pauline Johnson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth Lyles Johnson, a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend, who left us peacefully on August 22, 2025. Born on October 8, 1932, in Wahalla, SC, Ruth made her home in Gastonia, NC, where she spent her days surrounded by the things she loved most-her family, flowers, and her sweet fur baby, Dammit.
Ruth was a hard worker who dedicated herself to her family. She took great joy in gardening, finding happiness in nurturing her beautiful flowers. She also cherished her shopping trips, with her sisters and loved getting her hair done, always wanting to look her best.

Her spirit, humor, and warmth touched everyone around her, especially her beloved daughter, Sheila Whiteside (Harley); grandson, Steven "Chad" Johnson Sr.; great grandchildren, Christina Martin, Steven Johnson Jr. (Lindsey), Victoria Bickford (Mike), Alexis Ledford (Jacob Hilderbrand), Justin Johnson, Morgan Johnson, Trey Lynch, Alex Lynch, and Jessi Johnson; great-great grandchildren, Logan Johnson, Charlie Bickford, Jocelyn Johnson, and Tatum Hilderbrand; sister, Olline Goble (Donnie), all who were her pride and joy.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Marie Lyles; siblings, Pete Lyles, Ruby Morris, Margie Morris, Buck Lyles, and Blanche Lyles; great grandchildren, Brandon Johnson and Jamie Leigh Johnson.
Prior to the service, there will be a visitation at Greene Funeral Service - West Chapel 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia, from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM. A graveside service will be held for Ruth at Westview Gardens on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 12:15 PM, where we will gather to celebrate her life and the love she shared with us all.
As we prepare to say our goodbyes and remember all of the joyful moments we shared with Ruth, let us carry her love in our hearts forever. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
