Obituary published on Legacy.com by Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home - Ruston on Jan. 30, 2026.
Funeral services for Ruth Judd, age 96 of Ruston, will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston with Rev. Brian Mercer and Rev. Paul Watts officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Ruth Judd was born in
Alexandria, LA to Emile Albert Delcomyn and Bessie Mae Greene. She died in Ruston peacefully from complications related to old age. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Louisiana Tech University and taught school (primarily fourth grade) in the Lincoln Parish School System for many years.
While "Mrs. Judd" is remembered fondly by many locals who she taught in fourth grade, she was also a very devoted Christian and active in her faith. She was a long-time member of Trinity Methodist Church and enjoyed participation in the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, the Lydia Circle and the "2 by 2" class. She actively supported Christian charities and causes, particularly as she got older, and was a role model for many in her faithfulness.
Mrs. Judd loved her family fiercely and was loved by them in return. In addition to teaching and family care, she had several avocations. She held membership in the Long Leaf Pine Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In earlier years, she enjoyed travel to DAR events with her sister, June Marsh (deceased 2022). Throughout her life she was an active gardener and displayed a true appreciation for the beauties abundant in nature.
In 2005, Mrs. Judd lost the steadfast love of her life, Thomas Gwin Judd, her husband of 56 years. She is survived by her two sons, Thomas Kimbell (Kim) Judd and wife Debra Judd of
Covington, LA and Byron Gwin Judd and wife Cathy Schimmel Judd of Ruston. She has five grandchildren: Eric Judd, Elise and husband Mark Nicaud, Charles Judd and wife Rosemary, Ansley Judd, and Rachel Judd and husband Judah Coody. Mrs. Judd was a proud great grandmother of four: Charlotte Nicaud, Mae Nicaud, Jack Nicaud and Armand Judd. She is also survived by nieces, Jennifer Johnson and Patricia Cutbirth; and nephews Steve White and Kenneth White, along with their families.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caring and competent staff at The Arbor & Terrace Retirement Community, Premier Hospice, and Tender Touch Services, who loved and cared for Mrs. Ruth like family in her final days.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Eric Judd, Charles Judd, Mark Nicaud, Judah Coody, Roy Baker and Eddie Horton.
Her love for her God was expressed in her deep and abiding love for her family, foremost, and care and support for those who were less fortunate. Her heart and her subtle sense of humor will be sorely missed by her family.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 -2:00 PM, Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Owens Memorial Chapel, preceding the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to any of the charities that were close to Ruth's heart, including St. Jude's Hospital, the Methodist Children's Home, or the Baptist Children's Home.
