In retirement, Ruth and Edward moved to Fletcher, North Carolina, to be closer to their daughter and her family. Her house was often arrayed with cuttings from her garden, as well as her favorite houseplants. She also cherished her time visiting the Biltmore Estate gardens for inspiration.
