Ruth Bryant Layman

Ruth Bryant Layman, 91, of Lakeview, OH, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 8, 2025, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus, OH.
Ruth was born on October 12, 1934, in Ironton, OH, a daughter of the late Timothy F. and Lockie E. (Travis) Bryant. She married Richard E. "Dick" Layman, Sr in 1952, and he preceded her in death on July 24, 2021. She was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy G. Layman on July 6, 2025, and three brothers, Jesse Willard Bryant, Gene Bryant, and Timothy Herbert Bryant.
Ruth is survived by her son, Richard E. "Rick" Layman, Jr, a grandson, Justin G. Layman, four siblings, Shirley B. Crowe, Janet B. Smith, Franklin "Cork" Bryant, and Brenda "Bunny" Sparks, her husband, Dan, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ruth was a 1952 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School in Coal Grove, OH. She earned her Bachelor of Science and master's degrees from Marshall University. Ruth's teaching career spanning over 40 plus years starting at Dawson-Bryant Elementary School in Deering, OH, and then at Hilliard Middle School in Hilliard, OH. She was a life member of Community Missionary Baptist Church in Deering, which was founded by her grandfather, Willard Bryant, and father, Timothy Bryant. After moving to Indian Lake, Ruth attended Indian Lake Community Church, where she sang in the choir and volunteered. Ruth enjoyed camping, boating, gardening, and was musically inclined. She also studied and recited poetry. Ruth's greatest love was for her Lord and Savior, and her family. She always looked forward to hosting her family's 4th of July gatherings at her home on Indian Lake.
Reverend Karen Blackburn will begin funeral services at 12:00 noon, Friday, November 14, 2025, at Indian Lake Community Church, 121 N. Orchard Island Road, Russells Point, OH with visitation one hour prior to services. Pastor James Beals will begin graveside services at 12:30 pm. Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Community Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 198 Community Cemetery Drive, Deering, OH.
