Ruth Leazer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cranston Family Funeral Home - Irish Ridge Cremation - Fairfield on Dec. 4, 2025.
Ruth Elizabeth Leazer, age 92, of Fairfield, left this world on December 2, 2025, at Addington Place,. Ruth's journey began on November 4, 1933, at home near the Packwood turnoff on Hwy 34, born to Charlie and Marie Gorman. Raised in Batavia, Ruth's early years were filled with the simple joys of small-town life, culminating in her graduation from Batavia High School.

With a heart for service, Ruth pursued her calling at Indian Hills Community College, becoming a CNA. She married her lifelong companion, Newell Guy Leazer, on August 16, 1952, and together they built a family rooted in love and resilience.

Ruth's hands were never idle-she worked as a housekeeper in Fairfield and dedicated 25 years to caring for patients at Jefferson County Hospital. Her spirit of adventure and love for the mountains led her to Colorado, a place she cherished both as a resident and a frequent visitor. Whether hiking scenic trails, marveling at the changing scenery, or simply breathing in the crisp mountain air, Colorado was Ruth's sanctuary-a place where she felt closest to nature and at peace.

A devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield, Ruth's faith was her compass. She found joy in fellowship, service, and the laughter of her growing family. Ruth's legacy lives on in her three sons-John of Fort Collins, CO; Bob of Fairfield; and Bill of Littleton, CO-her daughter Mary, her sister Luann Davis, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Newell "Nook" Guy Leazer, and her brother Loy Gorman. Her memory will be honored at a memorial service on December 12, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Fairfield.

Ruth's story is one of kindness, adventure, and unwavering love-a life well-lived, with Colorado's mountains forever in her heart.

In accordance with her wishes her body has been cremated. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00AM an hour prior to the service on Friday December 12, 2025 at the First Baptist Church in Fairfield with the memorial service beginning at 11:00AM. Memorials in Ruth's honor to the First Baptist Church in Fairfield or Jefferson County Park may be left at the memorial service or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 189, Fairfield, IA 52556.
