Ruth A. McQuate, 87, of Sinking Spring, passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026 at Mifflin Court. She was the wife of the late Lloyd R. McQuate, Jr. who passed away in 2015 and with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.
Ruth, a daughter of the late George D. and Anna M. (Sterner) Degler, was born in Lower Heidelberg Township. She is survived by her three daughters, Debbie, widow of Ronald Lutz, Bonnie R., wife of Michael Oberly, and Candace R., widow of Peter Ruth; a sister, Grace, wife of Richard Reber; eight grandchildren, Jenna, Beth, Sarah, Leah, Julia, Tiffany, Keith, and Kristen; nine great grandchildren, Evan, Autumn, Caileigh, Avery, Dominic, Gabriel, Paige, Juniper, and Kameron. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Miller, and Herman Degler; and a sister, May Behney.
She was a 1956 graduate of Penn Bernville High School.
Ruth was president of the Womelsdorf PTA and a Camp Fire Leader. She was a life member of Soul Clinic Christian Community Church, where she was named Woman of the year in 1983 and also taught Sunday School for many years.
In 1990 she was elected first woman Master (President) of Bernville Grange. In 1992 was the first woman Master of Berks County Pomona Grange and served four years. She was granger of the year in 1993.
She had previously served on the Board of Directors of the Reading Fair and Reading-Berks Farm- City Council
A graveside service will be held at Noon, Friday, Mar. 27th, at Bern Church Cemetery. Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, 243 W. Penn Ave., Wernersville, is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.lammandwitman.com.
