Albert D'Ercole Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, Inc. - Wernersville on Feb. 3, 2026.
Albert J. D'Ercole, Jr., 82, of Wernersville, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026. He shared over 46 loving years with his loyal wife, Deborah (Roncase).

Born in Lower Merion, PA, to the late Albert and Rose (Cioppi) D'Ercole, Al graduated from Radnor High School in 1961, where he was a member of the varsity football team. He later graduated from Peirce College.

Al spent the majority of his career as a systems analyst, working at a number of companies including Johnson & Johnson, Gallagher Associates, and AMP, which later transitioned to Tyco International. After retiring from Tyco, Al worked part-time for the Caron Foundation as a patient transport driver, a role he held for nearly a decade. Throughout his career, Al grew lasting friendships with his colleagues, whom he treasured.

In retirement, Al kept himself busy as an active member of St. Ignatius Loyola Church, in West Lawn, Pa., where he served as an usher while Debbie sang in the choir. He also accompanied Debbie on certified therapy dog visits to libraries, schools, and hospitals with their two dogs, Rocky and Adrian. Adrian, in particular, was the apple of Al's eye, and the two shared a special bond.

Al also stayed active by playing golf and tennis, and in his younger years was known as an avid skier (both downhill and on water with his boat, the Aquarius II), bowler, and drag racer. He proudly earned the nickname "Atco Al" for his bold endeavors with his Corvette at Atco Speedway in South Jersey.

Al was known for his love of classic cars, small engines, and WWII era aircraft. He was often found tinkering on his Porsche or Wheel Horse tractor. He was a brilliantly gifted mechanic who enjoyed the process of identifying problems and finding solutions, sometimes even creating his own replacement parts if he couldn't find one for purchase. One of Al's standout memories was flying in a Consolidated B-24 Liberator aircraft, a gift from his family for his 70th birthday.

For Al, Sundays (and sometimes Monday and Thursday nights) were devoted to Merrill Reese and the Philadelphia Eagles. He never missed a game, even if it sometimes felt like the Eagles themselves didn't show up. Like clockwork, each week Al would enter his "cone of silence" by calibrating a jerry-rigged portable radio to receive Merrill's broadcast. He was often seen wearing his Eagles gear, including hats old and new.

He will be forever remembered as a fiercely devoted family man. Al was known to leave for work at 5:45 a.m. so that he could get out early enough to drive 50 miles back home for his daughters' late afternoon softball games. He'd always be there, standing through nine innings, still in his slacks and dress shirt. He was a remarkably humble, but gifted father, never missing a milestone and always supportive of his daughters, Danielle and Jacqui.

He will be deeply missed and often talked about by his beloved wife, Debbie; their daughters, Danielle M. D'Ercole, companion of Christopher A. Frymoyer, of Robesonia, and Jacqueline R. D'Ercole of Phoenixville; as well as nieces, nephews, and their families. In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by his brother, Frederick D'Ercole, and sister, Antoinette Boyce.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 2600 St. Albans Dr., Reading PA 19608, with viewing and visitation from 10:30 a.m. until the start of Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery of West Conshohocken, 2025 Old Gulph Rd., Villanova, PA 19085.

I worked at Caron as a driver along with Al. We made several trips together. He was a joy to be around. He made the trips shorter than what they really were. He knew a little bit about everything. I´ll miss him.We both retired from Caron around the same time. He always talked about his family, his wife, his daughter horses, the dogs, the Home they had in the Poconos.
