Richard Thomas “Rich” Coogan, age 85, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on February 7, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the beloved son of the late Richard Patrick and Grace Catherine Coogan (nee Dromgool).
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Richard served honorably as a 1st Lieutenant during the Vietnam War, serving billets as Platoon Leader and later as Executive Officer and Liaison. His commitment to his country and his fellow soldiers was a source of immense pride throughout his life. Some of his awards were the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal along with several medals awarded by South Vietnam.
Following his military service, Richard finished his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering at Villanova University. He found his calling as a sales representative in the education technology field, where he melded his passion for computers and electronics with a genuine desire to empower education through innovative solutions.
Rich’s hobbies extended beyond his professional endeavors; he was a gun enthusiast, indulging in his interest with firearms, and a skier during his adventurous younger years. His intellect and curiosity often led him to spirited discussions centered around politics and the military, where he could express his viewpoints animatedly and thoughtfully. In a testament to his commitment to fostering community, Rich created a website for the 15th Combat Engineer Battalion, www.15thengineer.50megs.com, which allowed veterans to share their stories and experiences, exemplifying his empathy and dedication to those who walked a similar path.
Rich was the loving father of Michael Coogan (Perpetua), David Coogan, and Laura Coogan; grandfather of Audra, Jasmine, and Sophia. Rich was very friendly with the employees at Double Decker in Media, especially Angelina and Jaiese whom he referred to as his honorary grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to Rich’s Visitation 4:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, and to his Graveside Service 9:30 AM on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, 60 Indiantown Gap Rd., Annville, PA 17003.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Pennsylvania Veterans Museum, PO Box 73, 12 East State St, Media, PA 19063, paveteransmuseum.org, would be appreciated.
