Loretta Coogan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Quinn Funeral Home - Warwick on Jan. 22, 2026.
Loretta Ann Coogan, 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha (Glennon) Duggan, and the beloved wife of the late John M. Coogan.

Loretta was the devoted mother of her two sons – John "Mick" Coogan and the late Timothy J. Coogan, who were so dear to her heart. She was the loving grandmother to her two granddaughters, Nicole Coogan and her husband Nicholas, Caitlin Anne Hoffman and her husband Jonathan; as well as the doting great grandmother to Jack M. Hoffman.

Loretta graduated from Rhode Island College, class of 1951, after which she taught in the Warwick School Department for many years. She had fond memories of her years teaching in Warwick elementary schools and loved spending holidays and birthdays with her whole family. In her own words, she found great joy simply being outdoors with family and friends. Whether hiking or biking along New England trails, staying at charming bed-and-breakfasts in the White Mountains, cross-country or alpine skiing, canoeing or kayaking, spending days at the beach, gardening, or antiquing, she deeply cherished every moment shared with those she loved. The Warwick Public Library kept her supplied with large print books for an indoor hobby.

Loretta was predeceased by her son Tim Coogan and siblings Glenna Downs, Marilyn Leach, John Duggan and William Duggan. She is survived by her son Mick, brother-in-law Matthew Coogan, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, in St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Visitation will be held in the Church prior to the Funeral Mass from 9:00am to 10:00am. Her burial and committal prayer ceremony will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Greenwich, where she will be reunited with her late husband John and son Tim.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Loretta's memory may be made to the James L. Maher Center, 906 Aquidneck Ave, Middletown, RI 02842.

Our deepest sympathies to Loretta´s family. She was only a member with us for a short while but she was a lovely woman to speak with.

Mickey and family, we have known your mother and your family all of our lives. I spoke to her the week before last to let her know of our mother's passing. I am so fortunate that I got to chat with her so recently. God bless you and her.
