Ruth Monahan Obituary

Ruth Ann Monahan

March 5, 1946 - January 18, 2026

Beaufort, South Carolina - Ruth Ann Monahan passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at MUSC Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.

She was born on March 5, 1946, in Clay County, West Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Peter B. Morris and Georgia E. (Lambey) Morris. Ann graduated from Clay High School and went on to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for nine years. She later studied nursing at Prince George's College. In 1985, she accepted a position with the Defense Intelligence Agency at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., where she served until her retirement in December 1997.

Ann was deeply devoted to her family and took pride in a life of service, both professionally and personally. Over the years, she attended Congress Heights Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., Fort Washington Baptist Church, and Broad Creek Episcopal Church in Fort Washington, Maryland. She valued tradition, history, and learning. Ann found special meaning in researching her family's ancestry and preserving those stories for future generations. In November 2022 she joined the Daughters of the American Revolution, DAR, honoring her Patriot ancestor, Captain Hezekiah Holcomb of Hartford, Connecticut.

Ann is survived by her beloved husband, Michael Henry Monahan, a retired police commander and college professor; her two children, Patrick Bryce Monahan and his wife Tricia of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and Melinda Monahan Henrickson and her husband Sean of Beaufort, South Carolina. Nothing brought Ann greater joy than her grandchildren, whom she absolutely adored. She was a loving and proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Ryan, Jack, and Mae Henrickson; Annabelle, Suzanna, and Corbin Monahan, and is also survived by their mother, Melanie Scott Monahan. Time spent with her grandchildren was among her greatest happiness, and her love for them was constant and unmistakable.

She is also survived by her siblings: the late Robert Charles Morris (d. July 29, 2023) and his wife Gloria Jean Morris; Frank Edward Morris (preceded in death by his wife, Wanda); Lula Mae Morris Smith and her husband Jesse; Samuel Morris (preceded in death by his wife, Aloma); Judy Lynn Morris; Randy Pete Morris and his wife Susan; and Jeffrey Paul Morris and his wife Janet; as well as six nieces and nephews.

Ann was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edward Marion and Lula Jane Hughes Lambey, and Francis Marion and Lucy Mae James Morris.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Anderson Funeral Home, located at 611 Robert Smalls Parkway, Beaufort, South Carolina 29906.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Anderson Funeral Home. Interment to follow at the Sacred Ground Cemetery, 600 Newcastle St., Beaufort, SC, 29902 next to the St. Helena Church.

Ann was a Fine big sister to me all her life. During our phone conversations, we laughed a lot. I will miss her dearly.

Deepest condolences to the Uncle Mike, Patrick, Melinda and their families.
Aunt Ann will always have a special memory and place in my heart. Her listening and conversing and those eyes and smile could tell you what she was thinking.
I always admired her grace and stoic nature. During difficult times , funerals etc ..my eyes would always lock on to what was Aunt Ann doing.
I did look for her alot at my father's funeral, and with her presence she was kept me together unbeknownst to her....she silently carried me during my darkest hours.
Rest in the embrace of the lord Aunt Ann and I know you were embraced by several other loved ones.
I love you , and I thank you you for all that you have showed me on this earth. Until we meet again.....
