William Monahan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory - Cumming on Feb. 6, 2026.
William "Bill" Monahan, Jr., passed away peacefully at home on February 4, 2026, after living with Parkinson's Disease for nearly a decade. He was 77 years old.

Bill was born in Weymouth, Mass. on November 26, 1948, to the late William, Sr. and Mary (Kiley) Monahan. He is survived by his wife Marian (Wagner); their children William, III (Katrina), Patrick (Ashlie), Christine Ventresca (Ryan), Daniel (Karen), and Sean (Lauren); along with seven beloved grandchildren: Devin, Christian, Kaylin, Rhys, Kendall, Cecilia, and Anna. Also surviving Bill are his siblings Barbara (Jeffrey) and Robert (Rosamund) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill is most remembered for his devotion to family, dedication to ministry, and lifelong love of sports.

A gifted athlete, Bill's accomplishments included playing division one college baseball and being scouted by the New York Mets. It was in college that he met the love of his life, Marian. As father to their five children, Bill's two greatest loves merged as he took on the roles of coach and enthusiastic spectator for his children's many sports teams. Even in adulthood, Bill could often be found on the basketball court, in the gym, or watching whichever sporting event happened to be on tv.

By trade, Bill was a highly successful businessman with a career in plastic sales spanning four decades. However, it was his avocational calling to the diaconate which brought him the most fulfillment in his working years. Along with giving him the opportunity to celebrate significant life events with his and Marian's family and friends, Bill's ministry allowed him to share with others the faith that anchored him and gave his life purpose. It was often through his deeply personal and touching homilies that Bill opened his inner world to others.

Bill was first diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2017. While the final decade of his life brought many challenges, he and Marian remained devoted life partners through it all. Their love will continue to be a shining example for all who have witnessed it.

A visitation will be held at McDonald and Son Funeral Home on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 5:00-8:00pm, with a prayer vigil at 7:00pm.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, February, 14, 2026 at 1:00pm, at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

A reception will follow at 3:00pm, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
