Jane Wright Obituary

WRIGHT, Jane Waits

Jane Waits Wright set sail on her next great adventure on January 3, 2026, after a brief illness. Welcoming her home are her parents, Lewis and Ethel Waits; her brother, Lewis Jr.; and two of her sons, Kenneth and John. Waiting to join her are her husband of 68 years Thomas; her sister, Margaret; her son, Richard (Mary); two daughters-in-law, Julie Glass and Jacqueline; and six grandchildren: Connor, Sarah (Carter), Erin, Kelly, Nicole and Jessica.

Jane was born on February 24, 1939, in Birmingham, Alabama, and married Thomas K. Wright, Jr. on June 14, 1957, in Atlanta, Georgia. The newlyweds headed to Orlando, Florida to start their new life together. In 1960, they welcomed their first son, Richard, with Ken arriving in 1962 and John in 1963. The growing family moved to Brevard County, Florida to be closer to Tom's job in 1963.

Jane took great pride in being a homemaker and was a wonderful chef and gardener. Her family treasures many of the recipes she passed along. Several of her dishes will continue to be fixtures at any family gathering in the years to come. So great was Jane's culinary talent that she managed to provide gourmet meals even from the galley of their various cabin cruisers as they sailed the Bahamas and Eastern Seaboard in the summers.

A lifelong scholar, Jane returned to college to complete her degree in Computer Science. She graduated with honors from the University of Central Florida, in 1989. She and her husband, Tom, were very involved in their local Power Squadron while living in Brevard County. They held various offices within the organization and taught boating safety and navigation courses for many years.

In 2021, Tom and Jane decided to return to Georgia, and settled in Woodstock. They quickly made many friends within their new community. Richard and his family, who live in Cumming, were very excited to have them closer. Many holidays and family celebrations were enjoyed together in their new surroundings.

If anyone wishes to send a memorial gift, the family would appreciate donations benefitting the Texas Chapter of the ALS Foundation, (http://web.alsa.org/goto/TheWrightTeam2026).
