Ruth Estelle Wright Morgan, 93, of Meridian, passed away on February 14, 2024, at Ochsner Rush Medical Center.
Ruth, also known as “Maudie” to family and friends, was born to Tommy and Roberta (White) Wright on January 30, 1931, in Meridian, Mississippi. She graduated from Meridian High School in 1949, and in 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, Leonard “Sonny” Morgan. They were married for a little over 70 years before Sonny passed away in 2021.
Ruth was a dental assistant for over 34 years at offices in Meridian and New Orleans before retiring. Her favorite “job” though was being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an amazing mother to her two children, Jimmy and Sharon. In Sharon’s words, her mother “had the purest heart of anyone I’ve ever known.”
Ruth received the name “Maudie” when she became a grandmother to Josie. After that, she became Maudie to anyone who knew or met her. She was also thrilled to become a great-grandmother to Gannon and Landrey.
Maudie was a sweet-spirited soul, even until the very end. She loved everyone and truly saw the best in every person she encountered. She will be dearly missed by anyone who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Tommy and Roberta Wright; her husband, Sonny Morgan; son, Jimmy “WaBash” Morgan; grandson, Gabriel Goodson; mother-in-law, Margie Morgan; and special cousin, Howard Beeland.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sharon Lee Morgan; granddaughter, Josie Matthews Kidd and her husband Chance; great-grandchildren, Gannon Chancelor Kidd and Landrey Morgan Kidd; and brother-in-law, Lynwood “Bubber” Morgan of California.
