It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth London Murrell, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Blairsville community, who departed this life on October 27, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on June 4, 1937, in Cornelia, Georgia, to James and Ethel Morrison London, Ruth devoted her life to her family and her passions, leaving behind a legacy of love and creativity.
Ruth was a talented seamstress, known for her exquisite craft and keen eye for detail. Her love for sewing was matched only by her pride in her family, particularly her grandchildren.
As one of the first vendors at the Union County Farmers Market, Ruth could always be found brightening Saturdays with her cheerful presence. Her commitment to nurturing connections within the community extended to her role as the director of the Union County Senior Center for 30 years.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt Murrell; her parents, James and Ethel London; daughter, Deborah Murrell; and brothers, Homer London, Leon London, Ralph London, and Richard London.
She is survived by her beloved children; Diane ( Ernie) Harkins, Audie (Joy) Murrell, and Dewanda Loftis; siblings, Harold London, Mattie Edwards, Linda Slatten, Mary Gunn, and Benny (Hazel) London; grandchildren, Jennifer (Scotty) Jarrard, Jay (Amber) McCarter, Jimmy (Tonya) McCarter; Karla Kidd; and Kasey Loftis; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service to commemorate Ruth's incredible life will be held on Friday, October 31st at 1:00 pm at Cochran McDaniel Funeral Home of Blairsville.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 30th, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Cochran McDaniel Funeral Home of Blairsville.
Interment will follow at Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery.
