Ruth Hall Norman passed away March 28, 2024, after a long period of declining health.

A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Dexter Hall and Vinnie Cagle Hall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Ray Norman, and siblings: Jim Cagle, Rose Ashe, Clarence Hall, Buddy Ray Hall, Gene Hall, and an infant sister.

She retired from A&P as cashier and bookkeeper. She was a dedicated member of Ochre Hill Baptist Church where she served as co-treasurer and on the food committee for many years. She played basketball for the Webster High School Hilltoppers, and became an avid North Carolina Tarheel fan.

She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Blanton (Carroll) of Sylva, and granddaughter Samantha Blanton of Sylva. She is also survived by sisters: Stella Hall of Sylva, and Lettie Cobb (Bryan) of Greensboro; brothers: Albert Hall (Mary) of Sylva, and RD Hall (Jan) of Raleigh; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 3, at 2:00pm in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. JD Grant and Rev. Doug Mathis officiating, and burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon to 2:00pm prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Lord’s Closet ministry at Ochre Hill Baptist Church, 14 Norman Drive, Sylva, NC 28779, to help provide food and clothing to people in the community.

The family would like to say thank you to the staff at Skyland Care Center who loved and cared for her so well during her stay and a special thank you to Ms. Judy Ward, her loving roommate.
