RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Ruth A. Palmer, age 77, of Union Street passed away on Thursday evening August 29, 2024, in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. She had the loving comfort of her family by her side at the time of her passing.
Ruth was born on December 8, 1946, in Ilion, a daughter to the late Milton and Alice Elthorp Palmer. She was a graduate of Owen D. Young School in Van Hornesville, NY. She was married to Grant F. Palmer, Jr. for forty-one years until his passing in April of 2008.
Throughout her life, her work in grocery retail and support for the local fire department kept her engaged with the community.
Ruth, aka Gramm, loved a good movie and/or book. Her knitting and crocheting talents produced blankets that are now family heirlooms. Most of all, she loved to be surrounded by family and friends, engaged in conversation about family and local history.
Surviving her are two sons; Gary and his wife Vicky, Bradley and companion Jeanette, a daughter Jean, two grandsons; Allan and Matthew, a brother David and his wife Jody, and a sister Penny and her husband Calvin. Also surviving her are four grandchildren: Katelyn, Logan, Jayce, and Colton, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents and her husband Grant, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Janet Archer and Betty Filkins.
Ruth was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many and will never be forgotten.
A funeral service for Ruth Palmer took place privately at the convenience of her family.
Arrangements are J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.
