Ruth Ellen Parmer, of Fargo, ND, died on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Bethany on 42nd at the age of 99.
She was born on October 8, 1926, to Edwin and Ellen Hawes in Crookston, MN. After graduating from high school, she moved to Fargo to attend Interstate Business College and became a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Following graduation, Ruth was hired by the college, where she worked for a number of years, and then accepted a job with the Fargo Chamber of Commerce. In later years, she worked for the First United Methodist Church until she retired.
Ruth married Levi Parmer on June 6, 1948, in Crookston. They had one son together, Jeffrey. They enjoyed spending time with their family and friends, square dancing, camping, traveling, playing golf, reading, and doing volunteer work. They were active members in the Sons of Norway, First United Methodist Church, and Senior Services. They served their community by delivering for Meals on Wheels for many years and volunteered at the food pantry.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Levi; son, Jeffrey; her parents; and brothers Dan and Bob. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Elizabeta, granddaughter Lucia, and her nieces and nephews.
As per Ruth's wishes, no services will be held. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Fargo, beside her husband and son.
The Levi Q. and Ruth E. Parmer Foundation has been established for Charitable Agencies to be recipients of their estate.
