Ruth Petrush Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremations Services, Inc. - Wesleyville on Feb. 2, 2026.
On January 31, 2026, at her home in Erie, Pennsylvania, Ruth Ann Petrush (Kerner) was given the gift of eternal life with Jesus after a long battle with stage 4 cancer. During her final breaths, she was lovingly held by her husband of 46 years, Delmyr, as well as her daughters, Amanda and Meghan. Ruth was blessed to be surrounded by her closest family and friends during her last days on this earth, for whom Del, Amanda, and Meghan are forever grateful.

Ruth was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on May 21, 1954, the daughter of the late Thomas Kerner Sr. and Anna Mae Kerner (Laughran). Ruth was a proud graduate of Erie's East High, Class of '72, where she made many memories with her life-long friends. Ruth moved on to become a dedicated employee at Saint Vincent Hospital, working in a few different areas, eventually ending up as the secretary of the Medical Records Department where she made many friends, including funeral directors and the Erie County Coroner. Due to her illness, Ruth retired after 47 years. She was a beloved employee, member of the Quarter Century Club and known as the Mayor of Saint Vincent. Ruth loved visiting every casino that she could and was always volunteering her time to help other people. Though Ruth loved dancing on tables at weddings and being the life of the party, what she loved the most was spending time with her husband and grandkids.

Ruth was reunited with her sweet baby who went to Heaven before being born and preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas and Richard Kerner; nephews Michael and Brian; as well as many close family friends.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Delmyr; daughters, Amanda Petrush and Meghan Rosenthal (Greg); grandsons, Jackson and Shay; and granddaughter, Jynavei. Ruth is also survived by her pseudo son, Brenton Davis; and her incredible nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who were like family to her.

Special thanks to Ruth's sister, Sarah Morgan, for being her rock during her diagnosis as well as barely leaving her side since being put on hospice. We would also like to thank her sisters-in-law, Helen Kerner, Stephanie Singer, Glenna Petrush, and Lori Petrush for being here for her through thick and thin.

Special thanks to her work family from Saint Vincent for making mom always feel loved. Big thanks to every single staff member at the AHN Cancer Center at Saint Vincent, especially Dr. Tayshetye, for helping keep mom alive far longer than expected given her diagnosis. Another special thanks to AseraCare Hospice, especially Kristin, her nurse, and Jan, who have been beyond helpful during mom's last days with us-we are so thankful for you both.

Friends are welcome to call at Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm. Additional visitation will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 9:30 am until the time of the Prayer Service there at 10:30 am, followed by a Catholic Mass at St. James R.C Church at 11 am. Burial will immediately follow at Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you join them in creating a "Ruthie Fund" that they will use to bless patients that are going through cancer treatments. Condolences may be sent to www.dusckasfuneralhomes.com.

I just learned of Ruth´s passing yesterday and all my memories of her flooded my heart. I only wish I was able to attend her mass, but not able to due to illness. She was a little dynamite to work with at Saint Vincent, and a friend to all, including me. I had the pleasure of joining her in her anticipated excitement at the birth of her daughters. RIP Ruthie as you are in
Heaven! My condolences to Del, Amanda and Meghan! Molly and Rick Allen

Sally, Tom, and Ruth's family,
I am so sorry to read this. I worked with Ruth for several years at St Vincent's back in the 1990s. She was so pleasant. My deepest sympathies on your loss...
