Judith Ann Benedict, age 82, of Pemberville, OH and previously of Erie, PA, passed away unexpectly on January 26, 2026 at St. Charles Mercy Hospital.
Judy was born on June 15, 1943 to the late Herbert and Rose Roth Weaver. She grew up in Sewickley, PA and graduated from Ambridge High School, Indiana University of PA, and Duquesne University. In 1967, Judy met her soulmate John Benedict and they married a year later in June 1968. Judy was a beloved Spanish teacher for Upper St. Clair High School, Westlake Middle School and McDowell Intermediate High School in Millcreek Township. Judith was an active member of Church of the Cross Presbyterian in Fairview, a member of the American Association of University Women, and was the recipient of the PA state Modern Language Association Educator of the Year award in 2006. Judy loved teaching. She taught the Bethel Bible Series at Westminster Presbyterian and Church of the Cross, "blessed to be a blessing." She was also an avid tennis player and golfer. Traveling was a big passion. She was adventurous and fearless and many trips were had with her students, friends and family.
In 2019, Judy and John relocated to Pemberville, OH to be closer to their grandkids. They joined the Otterbein community and Judy quickly became a familiar face on campus. She and John participated in the Otterbein Olympics every year and she was a member of the dancing Rockers, performing dances with her fellow residents.
Judy will be remembered as a bright, joyful presence who made everyone around her feel seen, heard, and valued. She was curious about everything and everyone.
She loved to learn, to listen, and connect with everyone she met. Her warmth was effortless, and people were naturally drawn to her kindness and her vibrant spirit. She was loved by all, and she leaves behind a legacy of joy, openness, and wholehearted living.
We will miss her deeply.
Judy was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Lorraine (Pagher) Weaver. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of almost 58 years, John Benedict, her sons, Keith (Jennifer) of Sylvania, OH and Brad (Janelle) of Brea, CA, her grandchildren, Teagan (Charles III) Richmond and Madison Benedict, Tristan, Isla and Wesley Benedict. Also, her brother-in-law James (Joyce) Benedict of Mt. Crawford, VA, nephews Kurt (Suzie) and Mark (Kim) Weaver, Bruce Benedict, nieces Laura (Stephan) Weaver and Mandy (Eric) Chambers and many more family and friends.
Services will take place at a date to be determined. Service times will be updated here.
