Ruth Ruggiero, 91, passed away Monday, September 29 at her home in East Moriches, New York.
Ruth was born February 27, 1934 to Kurt and Katherine (Erhart) Petzschke in Chicago, IL. In 1938 Ruth moved with her parents and older sister Marie to East Moriches. She attended Center Moriches High School where she played in the high school band. Upon graduation Ruth attended school in New York City to train as a lab technician and then worked at Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson.
Ruth attended the Methodist Church in East Moriches, which is where she met John Ruggiero. Ruth and John were married on July 15, 1956, with John's father performing the ceremony. Son Stephen was born a year later, followed by James in 1961. The family spent many summers camping and traveling on vacations. Ruth was very active in the United Methodist Women’s group and served as an officer, as well as the Financial Secretary of the church. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and with the East End Hospice program.
Ruth is survived by sons Stephen and James and her daughters-in-law Patty and Heather; her grandchildren Marissa (Ruggiero) Seaman and Scott Ruggiero and their spouses Eric and Shelby.
A memorial service will be held at the East Moriches United Methodist Church, 370 Montauk Hwy, East Moriches, NY on Tuesday December 9 at 10:00 am.
