Lucy Ruggiero, 101, of Berwick, died Thursday, November 13, 2025 at her home, just shy of her 102nd birthday.
Born December 3, 1923 in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marta (Desimini) Gioia.
A graduate of Walton High School in Bronx, Class of 1941, she went on to Pohs Institute in Bronx, where she studied Business.
For seventeen years, she was employed as a secretary at Silver Beach Realty in Bronx. In her later years, she worked in the Personnel Office at the Berwick Hospital, and then as a secretary in the Administration Office of the Berwick School District, from which she retired.
Mrs. Ruggiero was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Berwick, the Berwick Senior Center, and the Berwick Senior Circle. She enjoyed crochet, word puzzles, walking, and shopping. She was always on-the-go. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and always showed deep concern for others.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Michael Ruggiero; and five sisters: Mary Parisi, Adelade Jay, Amelia Spahitz, Antoinette Bednarek, and Anna D'Alessio.
Lucy is survived by her two daughters: Donna Bogart and her life partner, Mark, of Plains, and Janet Henger of Berwick; four grandchildren: David DeMarco and his wife, Erin, Brian Bogart, Michael Henger, and Luke Henger; and two great-grandchildren: Vincent DeMarco and Domenica DeMarco. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, dear friends, cousins, and her sister-in-law, Sherry Ruggerio.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 721 Monroe Street, Berwick, with Rev. William T. Barbee, her pastor, officiating as Celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Berwick.
The family would like to thank Geisinger Hospice nurse Bob for his help and comfort, and our friend, Karen, for her kindness and support.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., Berwick.
