Ruth Ann Shipper 77, passed away on Sunday, April 27th, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. She was born March 9th, 1948, in Palestine, Texas, to parents Willie and Jessie Gatlin.
Ruth married the love of her life at 18 years old. She loved being a housewife and homemaker until widowed. She worked many years at Breeze Inn Store and Uhaul in Palestine where she met and made many good friends. She then worked as a private healthcare sitter caring for many people in their homes. Ruth was very outgoing, she loved to dance and never met a stranger. She loved being around others and meeting new people. She treated everyone like family, with respect and kindness. She loved helping others and would give anyone the shirt off her back. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. Ruth was a good listener and always gave the best advice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Jessie Gatlin; loving husband, Jimmie Shipper; sisters, Veda Ashby, Barbara Farrow, and Connie Gatlin; brother, Dub Gatlin and wife JoAnn; and great-granddaughter, Sophia Whitaker. Survivors include, her daughters, Jessica Shipper and spouse Raymond Whitaker, and Jeannette Shipper; brother-in-law, David Farrow; sisters, Bonnie Simon and husband Joe of Georgia, and Kandy Loney and husband Larry of Iowa; 8 grandchildren, Ashley Shipper, Jimmy Don Shipper, Wendy Shipper, Colton Shipper, Brittany Shipper, Dustin Whitaker and wife Virginia, Byron Whitaker, and Breana Whitaker; as well as 6 great-grandchildren, Raziel Whitaker, Paisley Shipper, Luna Whitaker, Talia Shipper, and Kirin Hardage.
As per her wishes, she will be cremated and family will hold a private memorial with burial at Muse Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of East Texas.
