Ruth Joann Weddell Smith, of Medora, passed away on the morning of November 14, 2025, at Hoosier Health and Living with her daughters by her side, she was 99 years old.
Joann entered this life on October 13, 1926, in Medora Indiana. She was the second born to Ralph and Mabel (Brown) Weddell and the sister to Melvin and Jane. She grew up on the Carr Owen Township line and was a graduate of Clear Spring High School. She was united in marriage to Howard "Howdy" Smith on June 2, 1946, after Howdy returned from serving in the US Navy during World War II. Together they were blessed with three daughters, Karen, Sharon, and Pam.
Joann was a devoted wife, mother, and Grammy. She was a lifelong member of the Medora Christian Church. Joann loved her family roots. She learned her family's genealogy and loved to help others with their family history. She worked at the Reliance Shirt Factory and Medora Plastic Factory but left before the factory closed and went to work at Hamilton Ford Garage until she retired.
Her legacy will live on with her daughters, Karen Weir and her husband Mike of Brownstown, Sharon Smith of Bloomington, and Pam Plummer of Medora, grandchildren Stacy Eder and her husband Kevin, Clay Weir, Kevin Brock and wife Carie, Kari Poznanovich and her husband Marko, Sarah Brown and her husband Brad, Jesse Plummer and his wife Stephanie, and Maddie Underwood and her husband Logan, great-grandchildren, Alana Brann, Grant Eder, Christian Weir, Cameron, Caleb, and Clara Brock, Jayden and Samantha JoAnn Brown, and Ellie, Colee, and Ruby Underwood and her sister Jane Crockett of Medora.
She was preceded by her parents, a grandson Joe Plummer, and brother Melvin Weddell.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday November 18, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Hague Funeral Home of Medora with Pastor David Sawyers officiating. Burial will be at White River Valley Cemetery
Visitation will be on Tuesday before the service starting at 11:00 am until time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be written in Joann's name to the Medora Christian Church
The family would like to extend a loving "Thank You" to the caring staff of Hoosier Health and Living for the care Joann received during her residence.
