Thomas Powell Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hague Funeral Home - Medora on Nov. 4, 2025.
Thomas M. Powell, of Brownstown, passed away on November 2, 2025, at the Hoosier Health & Living of Brownstown. He was 65 years old.
Tom entered this life on April 23, 1960, in Beech Grove, Indiana. He was the fourth child born to Eugene Robert Powell and Gaye Nell (Bratcher) Powell McDole and the brother to Mike, Connie, Eugene, Jr., J Lee, Trace, and Jill. After high school, Tom took night classes and became a diesel mechanic until his health got in the way.
Tom was a loving father, and grandpa. He loved cookouts with his family, watching his kids and grandchildren play sports. His grandchildren were his life. He never hesitated to get in the floor and wrestle and play games with his grandkids. He was a fisherman and when the weather was right and when his nephew Jared showed up, they were out dropping fishing lines. He loved to ride motorcycles. He took a break on riding to raise his kids, until his son Nate started riding motorcycles and then he had a riding buddy.
Tom was a tinkerer. If it was broken, he would always lend a hand to fix the problem. He also had a servant's heart and took joy in helping families. If they needed help with getting the car on the go, whether a quick brake job, or part swap, he did whatever it took to help, and often refusing payment. Tom also became a mentor to people struggling with addiction. He was able to connect with folks battling addiction, from battling his own injuries sustained earlier in life. His door was always open to anyone who needed him and he never said no to anyone. He always looked for good in folks and was eager to start up a conversation.
Tom's stories will live on with his children, Nate Powell and his wife Stormy of Medora, and Katie Fisher and her husband Shade of Medora, grandchildren Lillie, Gage, Briar, Staranna, and Arthur, brothers Mike McCarty and his wife Rachel, Eugene Powell, Jr., J Lee Powell and his wife Carla, and Trace Powell and his wife Bobbie, sisters Connie Louden and her husband Howie, and Jill Powell and a stepbrother Johnny McDole and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents, stepfather James McDole and stepbrothers Bob McDole and Randy McDole.
Funeral Services of Tom will be conducted at Hague Funeral Home on Saturday at 2:00 pm on November 15, 2025, with Tom's brother, Pastor Mike McCarty officiating.
Visitation will be at Hague Funeral Home on Saturday November 15, 2025 from 11:00 am until time of the service.
A remembrance fund has been established in Tom's name through the funeral home.
