Michael Wayne Sears, of Medora, passed away on the morning of November 12, 2025, at his home with his family by his side. He was 79 years old.
Mike entered this life on December 31, 1945, in Bedford, Indiana. He was the last born to Wayne and Margorie (Malott) Sears. He was the brother to Jenny, Merlin, Don, Dean and Mary. He was raised on a dairy farm outside of Leesville. As soon as he was old enough, he was put to work helping run the farm. Working on the farm, Mike developed a strong work ethic that always got the job done. Mike was a man of his word. His handshake was as strong as his word. If he said he was going to do it, Mike was the guy to get it done. He met his future wife Clara when she was 15, and he would wait until she graduated before marrying her. On August 14, 1964, Mike was united in marriage to Clara (England) Sears. From this union of over 61 years, they were blessed with Sandi and Mike.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, and Grandpa. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. As a loyal worker and provider, he started working for the local stone quarry, then on to the Medora Plastic Factory until the closing. He became a 15-year employee for Cummins Engine, before buying his own semi-truck and became an over the road truck driver hauling freight several years. Over the years, Mike became a self-taught diesel mechanic. He would come off the road and work for the Jackson County Road Department. But his love of the road would call him back, and he became a driver for Rose Acres until he retired. Mike was never one to sit still long, he always had something to fix, something to build, or someone needing help. He was always there lending a hand. Mike was also a self-taught jewelry maker and specialized in handcrafted custom copper bracelets. He believed in arthritic healing capability of the copper and would happily give someone a bracelet to help with the healing.
Mikes' idea of having fun was driving. And the road was always calling for him. If he wasn't out working driving a big truck, he would drive one of his many fast cars or out riding his motorcycle. Mike loved taking long trips and vacations, but only if he could drive there. Mike always had an itinerary on what time to be there, where to be, and when to go, so no one drove but him.
Mike's memories will live on with his wife Clara Sears of Medora, children Sandi Benge and her husband Loren of Leesville, Mike Sears and his wife Imani of Vallonia, grandchildren Caleb Couch and his partner Zane Valentine, Conner Sears, Nathan Sears, and Zachary Sears, sister Jenny Underwood of Shoals, and brother Dean Sears of Leeville, and a brother-in-law David Abner of Norman.
Mike was preceded by his parents, a sister Mary Abner and brothers Merlin Sears and Don Sears and a brother-in-law Clarence Underwood.
Funeral services will be conducted at Hague Funeral Home at 2:00pm on November 17, 2025, with Pastor Janis Mikits officiating. Burial will follow at Weddleville Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Hague Funeral Home of Medora on Monday starting at 11:00 am until time of the service.
