Ruth Shirley Soop

SOOP - Ruth Shirley (Hunt) Soop, age 87 of Hoschton, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025. A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM on December 23, 2025, in the Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, with Rev. Michael Soop officiating. A Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service. Ruth will be buried beside her beloved husband at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 5, 2026. Though she never wore the uniform Ruth was a dedicated "Navy wife," sacrificing while Russ served our Country. She raised their sons as he sailed the seas, moving coast to coast 7 times. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Russell Willard Soop, Jr., in 2016, and her parents, George and Gertude (Irons) Hunt. She is survived by her sons, Chester (Darlene) Soop; Michael (Felicia) Soop; Russell (Dana) Soop, III; and James (Deatra) Soop; grandchildren, Brady, Bridget, Dustin, Taylor, Anthony, and Austin; several great grandchildren; brothers, Noel Hunt and Gene Hunt; and sister, Betty Tilton.
