Ruth (Glode) Stanford of Manchester, CT, passed away peacefully in her home on February 24th surrounded by loving family. Ruth proudly lived her entire life in the Buckland section of Manchester. It was there that she worked in the tobacco fields, was part of the last graduating class from Buckland School in 1955 and went on to be part of the first four year graduating class from the "new" Manchester High School. She worked for the Diana Law Firm after graduation before moving on to Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford. It was there she met the love of her life, Lawrence Stanford, with the two marrying and raising a family together. After his tragic death in 1979, she continued raising her family with fierce independence of a single mother. Never asking for the help of others, she was always the first to lend a hand to family, friends or strangers alike. Ruth found great joy in attending every sporting event possible over the years of her sons and granddaughters. She loved the outdoors and walks throughout her family's property and Wickham Park which sits adjacent to her residence. She was constantly in the garden or doing landscaping at her property, keeping both meticulous. Ruth was a staunch supporter of the UConn Men's and Women's basketball teams and also followed the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband Lawrence Stanford, her parents Ruth and Charles Glode, and two brothers, Robert and Bruce Glode. She is survived by her sons Larry Stanford of Sarasota Fla., Rob Stanford (Jessica) of Hebron CT, and her granddaughters Alexis, Kiley and Reagan whom she adored. She is also survived by brothers Charles Glode (Laurie) of Barrington NH, Steven Glode (Joyce) of Manchester CT, sister-in-law Claudette Bealieu of Glastonbury and several nieces and nephews.
