Ruth G. Walker, 86, a beloved mother, devoted educator, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, at her residence in Lexington, MA.
Born to the late David and Elsa Gladstone on February 15, 1939, in Jersey City, NJ, and raised in Cresskill, NJ, Ruth lived a life defined by love, curiosity, and a lifelong dedication to learning. Ruth graduated from Tenafly High School before earning her degree from Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey), where she discovered her passion for early childhood education. Her teaching journey carried her across the country, impacting young minds in New Jersey, Washington, Idaho, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado.
Ruth dedicated her life to nurturing children. She taught Kindergarten and 1st grade for 10 years and later opened her home as a childcare provider for 35 years. She became a second mother - and later, a beloved grandmother figure - to countless children and families, many of whom remained in touch throughout her life.
Ruth was always very creative and loved crafting and making art projects with her many students. She also created many cherished costumes for her daughter's years in children's theatre. Her artistry, imagination, and love of play enriched the lives of all who knew her.
Guided by a deep love of learning, Ruth continued exploring new ideas and expanding her knowledge throughout her life. She studied childhood development, world cultures, and local history with the same enthusiasm she encouraged in her students.
Ruth also loved to travel, and visited many European countries, Latin America, Canada, and, as she made sure everyone knew: ALL 50 states!
Ruth is survived by her devoted daughter, Cathy, of Waltham, MA, who lovingly cared for her in her later years.
Friends and family are respectfully invited to gather and remember the love and laughter Ruth shared with us all on Friday November 7, 2025, at 12:00 PM – 1:00PM, followed by a Funeral Service in celebration of Ruth's life at 1:00 PM in The Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Son Memorial Chapels, located at 773 Moody Street in Waltham, MA. Burial will be held at Mt. Feake Cemetery. Parking attendants will be on duty.
