Ruthie Mae Elston Wilson was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, and an esteemed member of the Talladega community. Born on February 20, 1942, in Talladega, Alabama to the loving union of John Wesley Elston, Sr. and Rosa Annie Mae Hunley Elston, Ruthie's life was a testament to faith, love, and service. Ruthie was an unwavering devotee of Christ, having accepted Him as her Lord and Savior during her youth at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout her journey, she continued to nurture her spirit within the walls of Sycamore Baptist Church and Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, ultimately finding her spiritual home at Rocky Mount Baptist Church alongside her beloved husband, James. Ruthie's dedication to serving others was evident in her chosen profession as a caregiver, dietician, and domestic engineer in the healthcare industry. She lived a life filled with compassion and grace, pouring her heart into those she served and ensuring that love was at the center of her work. She cherished her family dearly, being a devoted wife to her husband, James Wilson, and a loving mother to her two children, Victor and Katrina. However, it was her great-nephew, Fraj-e "Fred", who held a special place in her heart, her most treasured possession. Known fondly as "Mrs. Ruby," Ruthie's home in Talladega was a sanctuary of warmth and nurturing, where countless memories were woven through laughter, love, and delicious meals prepared with care. Those fortunate enough to know her were blessed by her infectious laughter, vibrant smile, and the unwavering support she provided to all. Ruthie enjoyed quiet moments on her porch with crossword puzzles, listened to gospel music and oldies that brought peace to her soul, and found joy in watching her favorite show, The Golden Girls. Her community involvement with the Dominoes Social Savings Club and especially her support of TCTS Athletics and Band Boosters, showcased her unwavering commitment to uplifting others. Her legacy of kindness will endure and is a reminder of the profound impact one individual can have on the lives of many. On the evening of August 23, 2025, Ruthie Mae Elston Wilson peacefully transitioned from this earthly home to eternal rest, surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents, John and Rosa Elston, Sr., son, Rodney Truss, brothers, John Elston, Jr. and Howard Elston, sisters-in-law, Essie Ree Garrett and Effie Elston, and other loved ones who went on to glory before her.Ruthie Wilson's passing leaves a profound void in the lives of many, but the loving memories she created will forever linger.
