Ryan Abbey Obituary

Ryan Joseph Abbey, 41, of Chantilly, VA, entered God's eternal home on September 12, 2024 at the Inova Fair Oaks Medical Center, Fairfax, VA following a cardiac arrest. Born January 30, 1983 in Hanover, PA, Ryan was the husband of Dr. Christina Hamad Abbey and the son of Donald Abbey and the late Jean Hessler Abbey of Hanover, PA. A graduate of South Western High School (Hanover, PA), Ryan was awarded a Bachelor's of Science degree in Graphic Design from the Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn State University) in Williamsport, PA. While in high School, Ryan lettered in soccer and continued that interest and passion of soccer into his adulthood. After college he pursued his interest in traveling to South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, South Africa and numerous European countries. His career experiences with management carried Ryan to many places across the United States while working for Ernst and Young, Fannie Mae and more recently SAP. Currently he was a freelance designer working from home. Ryan's love of his family and numerous friends was very important to him, as he spent much time building relationships with others. In addition to his wife and father, Ryan is survived by his children Ava (age 10), Finley (age 9) and Dylan (age 5) Abbey of Chantilly, VA; brother Jonathan Abbey of Lancaster, PA; sister Kristin Abbey Coulson and brother-in-law, Brent Coulson, of Hanover, PA; step-mother Chris Thomas Abbey of Hanover, PA; step-sister Courtney Weichert and her husband Greg; his aunt Joyce Abbey Hibberd and her husband Granville of New Windsor, MD; and seven nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Christ's American Baptist Church (CABC) on October 12 at 10:00 AM. Pastor Joshua Trojak will officiate the service. Friends of Ryan and the family are encouraged to attend to share stories of Ryan's life. There will be luncheon after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers contributions can made to the CABC Dominican Republic Fund, 730 Menges Mills Road, Spring Grove, PA, 17362. The family would like to thank the many prayer warriors and friends who have offered prayers and support during this very difficult time.

My first memory of Ryan is rocking him as a tiny baby, so Mama Jean could get some sleep. Baby Ryan had not mastered napping yet. When I think of Ryan as a child, my first thought is that big smile. Despite what brother Jon and Nate were doing, sometimes to him, sometimes with him, Ryan would be smiling. Our hearts break for your loss.
