Ryan Stephen King, 44, of rural Lafayette died on Sunday morning August 28, 2022 as a result of a vehicle accident on the Hoosier Heartland Corridor near Delphi. Ryan was born on March 28, 1978 in Lafayette, Indiana to Stephen King and Ellen (Wininger) King. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and received an associate degree from Ivy Tech. He was a proud union electrician and member of IBEW 668. He worked at Primary Products Ingredients Americas (formerly known as Tate and Lyle).
Ryan was first married to Natasha Garrett on July 9, 2001 in Lafayette. Ryan and Tasha separated in September 2001. Ryan had a long-term relationship with Heather Hickman. They had one daughter, Haleigh King. Ryan loved Heather s son, Brennen Huizar, and raised him as his own son for many years.
Ryan married Shawna Hawkins on June 18, 2009 in Lafayette. When he married Shawna, Ryan also gained two new daughters: Kaitlyn Miller and Alexis Miller. Ryan loved these girls and was very proud of all their accomplishments. Ryan and Shawna had one son together, Hunter King.
Ryan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He liked fishing, cranking up the music out in his pole barn, muscle cars (particularly Mustangs), and taking days to smoke the perfect meat for a get together or just for his family.
Ryan had a big personality, and only big words can adequately describe him. Words such as boisterous; gregarious; and, yes, sometimes tempestuous. His friends and coworkers affectionately knew him as Rage. He was a man of deep emotions and would express that passion when interacting with people. He could fly into the rage that earned him his nickname. But he also had a deep kindness and love for people, that he expressed just as profoundly. Ryan had an amazing ability to remember the names and faces of everyone he ever spent five minutes with. As a result, he knew people everywhere he went and was always happy to see them, to greet them with a big wide smile, and to strike up a conversation.
Ryan is survived by his wife, Shawna King; his children (all at home), Kaitlyn Miller, Haleigh King, Lexi Miller, and Hunter King; his parents, Steve and Ellen King of Monticello; his brother, Jason King (wife Regina) of Westfield; and by his sister, Stacy McCandless (husband Chuck) of Winslow. He is also survived by his parents-in-law, Bill and Robin Hawkins of Danville; and his brother-in-law, Brad Hawkins of Lafayette.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 5pm 8pm at Hippensteel Funeral Home in Lafayette. Funeral Service will be 10am Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant in Linden, IN. Share memories and condolences online at www.hippensteelfuneralservice.com

Ryan was a friend as we both worked in the electrical trade for many years. I hadn't seen him in quite some time but he will be sorely missed as I enjoyed seeing him grow as a family man via his facebook page. Heartfelt condolences go out to his, wife, children, parents and friends. May the Lord grant us all with peace and comfort in this very difficult time. Rest in peace, brother.
