Ryan McDonald, age 20, of Cottage Grove passed away unexpectedly on May 18, 2024.  

Visitation will be from 5-6 PM on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Kok Funeral Home 7676 80th Street S.; Cottage Grove, MN with a time of sharing to be held at 6 PM.   

Ryan was born on September 24, 2003 in Okinawa, Japan to Robert and Chiharu (Tomoyose) McDonald. He grew up in the Cottage Grove area attending schools at Pine Hill Elementary, Oltman Middle School and graduating from Park High School in 2022.  Ryan attended the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus as well.  Most recently he worked at Target.  

Ryan was involved in choir for many years even lettering in high school. He was very skilled and handy at building computers and keyboards helping several friends with computer projects.  In his free time, he enjoyed listening to a wide variety of music. He was an avid gamer and especially loved to play Destiny and Overwatch. Ryan was known and will be remembered for his quiet, polite and kind spirit. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.  
Ryan is survived by parents Robert "Bob" and Chiharu McDonald; sister Mina (Jay Nazareno) Arakaki; brother Lance McDonald; niece Lilia Arakaki; grandparents Virginia Banach and Takahiro and Hiroko Tomoyose; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
