S. Gene Plate
Arizona. S. Gene Plate, age 87, passed away on December 20, 2024, at his home in Sun City, Arizona. Gene was born on July 23, 1937, in Mahaska County, Iowa, to Everett and Lucille Plate. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1955. He married Darlene Ross on January 17th, 1958. To this union two sons were born Randy and Craig. Gene worked at Pella Corp for 22 years before doing various jobs in Oskaloosa before moving to Arizona where he worked at Cartwright Schools in maintenance for 22 years before retiring in 2019. He then went to help Darlene and the girls in the beauty shop until Darlene retired in 2022. Gene loved to help others out and visit with family, friends and to go play Bingo.
He is survived by his wife Darlene of Sun City, Arizona; Randy (JoAnn) Plate of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Craig (Shari) Plate of Kimberling City, Missouri. Four grandchildren: Ben (Amanda) Plate, Chelsey (Greg) Johnson, Brandy Plate, all of Oskaloosa, and Brandon Plate of New Sharon, Iowa. Eight great grandchildren: Charley and Andrew Johnson, Aubrey and Hannah Plate of Oskaloosa, Nova Plate and Jacob Wallace of New Sharon, Tyler Long of Grinnell and Lexi Long of Newton. Four brothers: John (Margret) Plate, Robert Plate, Ivan (Mima) Plate and Howard (Elaine) Plate, once sister-in-law, Peggy Plate, and many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers: Glen and Leonard Plate, one sister, Sally DeGeest, and one sister-in-law, Gloria Plate.
As was Gene's wish his body has been cremated.
