S. Josephine Shoemaker, 90, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born July 29, 1935, in Hustontown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Bertha J. Strait Rouzer.
She was a graduate of Hustontown High School. Josephine then went on to complete Penn-Mar Cosmetology School.
Josephine and her beloved husband of 58 years, Raymond “R.C.” Shoemaker, were married on July 10, 1959. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm in Chambersburg. Mr. Shoemaker passed away August 18, 2017. Josephine also was employed with the US Department of Agriculture for 50 years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chambersburg where she enjoyed teaching. Josephine also enjoyed writing letters, going on walks, sewing, anything to do with the farming and being around people.
She is survived by two sons, Kevin T. Shoemaker and his wife Karen of Chambersburg and Kirby D. Shoemaker and his wife Carol Ann of Hustontown, PA; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Kyle L. Shoemaker.
Services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 10, 2026 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 50 Ragged Edge Road, Chambersburg, PA, where Bishop Adam Powell will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church Saturday afternoon. Burial will be private in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Humanitarian Services, c/o LDS Philanthropies, 1450 N. University Ave., Provo, UT 84604.
