Mrs. Sadie Maria Fields Braggs (Nanny Sadie) – Mrs. Sadie Maria Fields Braggs, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, exchanged this life for eternal peace on September 19, 2025 at a local hospice, after a brief illness. She was the fourth child born to the union of the late Frank and Louella Johnson Fields.

Mrs. Braggs was a lifelong active member of The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Mobile, AL where she participated and served as a Church Choir member, Sunday School teacher, member of the Vestry, official position in the Cheerio Club, as well as, the Women of the Church Organization and the Youth Ministry. She was one of the charter members of the Nu Zeta Zeta Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. of Prichard, Alabama.

Mrs. Braggs received her formal education in the Mobile County Public School System and received her B.S. Degree from St. Augustine Episcopal College in Raleigh, N.C.; her M.S. Degree from the University of South Alabama in counseling education, and; her AA Certificate from Alabama State University.

During her lifetime, Mrs. Braggs's employment and career history span several decades which include her initial teaching position at Mattie T. Blount High School in Prichard, Alabama, followed by teaching positions at Munich American High School in Munich, Germany and Ascheffenburg Middle School in Ascheffenburg, Germany. After her return to the United States, she was employed as a psychologist at Searcy Mental Hospital in Mt. Vernon, AL. Later, she returned to the educational field as a teacher at Mobile County High School in Grand Bay, AL. Finally, Mrs. Braggs concluded her career and retired from Williamson High School as a counselor in 1989. She was a member of the Alabama State Retired Teachers' Association, National Education Association, the Alabama Education Association, the Mobile County Education Association, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

She was preceded in death by the love of her life and devoted husband of 66 years, Alcea Steels Braggs, her parents, Frank and Louella Johnson Fields; stepmothers, Grace B. Fields and Celestine L. Fields; sisters, Frances Fields Beal, Ellen J. Washington and Geraldine L. Buford, and brother, Dr. Ellis Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories, nine nieces, Nancy Mackie of Atlanta, GA, Judge Moira (Mark) Lyons, Chicago, IL., Betty Buford, Sharon Buford, all of Mobile, AL, Regina (Lamont) Mayberry, Biloxi, MS.; Belinda Daniels of Decatur, GA, Darlene L. Braggs of Killeen, TX, and two devoted nieces, Marsellette Washington Riggins, of Mobile, AL, Josselyn Ezell (William) Fredd of Fairburn, GA; five nephews, Larry Buford, of Mobile, AL, Frank (Virginia) Buford of Surprise, AZ, and Gerald (Deborah ) Buford, Helena, AL; Alphonse (Lisa) Braggs, Jr., Jacksonville, FL, Marshall Ezell of Atlanta, GA; one devoted grandniece, Karen (Leroy Jr.) Raine; and a devoted grandnephew, Kenneth Buford, Mobile, AL; two devoted great-great nephews, Leroy (Trey) Raine, lll, Mobile, AL, and Jaboris (LaMaya) Raine, Hampton, VA; sister-in-law, Roslyn Braggs Ezell; three devoted cousins, Tyrone Johnson, Mobile, AL, Donald Johnson, LaPlace, LA, Bruce (JoAnn) Johnson, Gulfport, MS, Ethel Roberson, James (Susan) Taite, Aukim, CA, and other relatives and devoted friends, Eileen Hose, Renard Mose, Nathan T. (Linda) Mosley, Sr. all of Mobile, AL, Monica Walker, Greensboro, N.C., Delores Adams, Mobile, AL, Mary Nelson, Tampa, FL., Mae Turner, Oakland, CA., Della Brown, Laurelton, N.Y., Florence Charlie, Lottsburg, VA., Rev. and Mrs. Ernest Scott, Burrell (Betty) Young, all of Mobile, AL, Leathea Eaton, Pineapple, AL, Evelyn Terry, Jersey City, N.J., Rev. and Mrs. Norman Washington, Bay Minette, AL, Edward Dunning, Valena McCants, both of Mobile, AL, Marjorie Thompson, Whistler, AL, and; godchildren, Ellen James, of Mobile, AL, Dr. Tiffany (Shae) Robinson-Mosley, Atlanta, GA, Stephanie Mosley, Los Angeles, CA and Nathan T. Mosley, Jr., Mobile, AL, and spiritual advisor, Father Ken Cumbie.
