Sadie Singleton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Baker Funeral Services - Norwalk on Feb. 3, 2026.
OBITUARY

Mrs. Sadie Mae (Strong) Singleton beloved daughter of the late Viola and James Strong, was born on February 3, 1941, in Kingstree, South Carolina. She later moved north and attended Madison High School in Rochester, New York. At an early age, Sadie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with Bethel AME Church in Rochester, where she was a faithful and devoted member.

In 1959, Sadie was joined in holy matrimony to her loving husband, Ben Singleton Jr., in Kingstree, South Carolina. Their marriage was blessed with a lifetime of shared love and commitment. Ben Singleton Jr. preceded her in death in 1988.

In 1964, Sadie and Ben relocated their family to Norwalk, Connecticut, where Sadie began building both a home and a legacy of service. In 1967, she started a remarkable 39-year career at Northrup Grumman Corporation. She began as an assembler in the harness department and later advanced to the Magnetic Devices manufacturing team. Through her dedication and excellence, Sadie earned several honors, including a Special Award for Outstanding Performance in 1989 and the Turnaround Award as part of the MILSTAR team in 1990. She retired in 2005, opening a new chapter of life devoted more fully to ministry and service.

Following retirement, Sadie served faithfully in Chair of Executive Board of Ushers and various committees with the Fairfield County Unit of Ushers in Norwalk, Connecticut. She also served as President of the Usher Board at her home church, Shiloh Baptist Church of East Norwalk later moving her prestigious position to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church under Dr. Reverand Davis where her commitment and gentle leadership were deeply respected.

Sadie lived a life rooted in love and compassion. She spent her days caring for others, never turning anyone away who needed a meal, a place to stay, or a listening ear. Her home was a place of warmth, nurturing, and unconditional love. She lovingly provided care for elderly members of her community, assisting them with transportation to doctor appointments and helping with daily errands. Retirement allowed her more time to cherish the people she loved most, as family meant everything to her.

Her Christian life blossomed with the same beauty as the flowers she so dearly loved, and her quiet strength and kindness left an everlasting imprint on everyone she encountered. Sadie Mae Singleton peacefully departed this life on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Autumn Lake Healthcare in Norwalk, Connecticut.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughters, Sharon Singleton and Penny Singleton, and her cherished grandsons, Dwayne Singleton and Michael Patterson.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Veronica Moore, Baltimore, MD, Gerald Singleton (Lionel, Melissa, Jacqui), Tim Singleton (Gerard, Cassidy, Keila, Olivia), Carol Singleton, (LaToya, Yancy, Mahogany (Anthony), Norris), Dwonye (Sharon), Jamar & Symphony (Penny). Great Grandchildren: Aniyah, Aj, Daijah, Knijah, Nasean, Nariah, Dashawn, Shanyrah, Yancy Jr., Dwayne Jr., Jacqui, Miya, Naliyah, Amai, Zoey, Malik, Aria, Bella, Tahj, Kiarah, Jayce, Eli, Ava, Cane, Noah, Melody, Carter, Asai. Great-Great Grandchildren: Nova and Tavari. She is predeceased by her brothers Jimmy, Frank, James, Johnny and Jakie Strong her sisters Daisy Bell, Lila, Beverly and Jessie Lee, a host of devoted aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
