James J. "Jimmy" Curtin passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut, after a long health battle, following a severe spinal cord injury in 2017. Jimmy will be remembered for his generous heart, his loyalty to his friends and loved ones, and his curious spirit.
Jimmy was born on February 23, 1965, in Stamford, Connecticut, as the third and youngest child of Irene Curtin (née Amalfitano) and Ronald Curtin. His parents and his older siblings, Ronald Jr. and Maryjean, cherished Jimmy right away for his cheerful and playful nature. As a teenager, Jimmy achieved great renown as an accomplished high school athlete, playing both varsity football and track.
After school, Jim embarked on a long and purposeful career working for STAR, a non-profit agency in Norwalk, CT, that provides support for disabled adults. Through his dedication and warmth, he helped countless clients succeed at their jobs and discover new levels of independence and self-esteem.
Jimmy is survived by his two sons, James Joseph (J.J.) and Christopher; and his mother, Irene, with whom he shared the strongest of bonds. He will be missed by his large extended family, along with the many, many friends he's made throughout the years. His talent for keeping long-lasting relationships can't be overstated–he kept up regular communication with close friends from childhood and his teen years up until the day he passed, and he frequently welcomed visits from both friends and family during the years of his paralysis.
Jimmy's fascination with how things work made him an avid hobbyist, and his skills ranged from antique furniture restoration to gaming to sportsman. His blend of curiosity and enthusiasm was contagious, and he helped his loved ones appreciate the world around them to the fullest extent.
Calling hours will be on Monday, February 9, from 4-7 pm at Harding Funeral Home in Westport, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jim's name to the CT Humane Society.
