Sally Sue Hover (Sands) succumbed to cancer at age 72, Dec. 14, at home with her family.
Sally, the oldest of five siblings, was loved not only for her sweetness and sincerity, but her occasional zaniness. A favorite family story was when a high school teacher sent her out for disrupting class. Sally wanted back in, but knew she couldn't use the door. Fortunately for her, the classroom was on the 2nd floor, so she was able to shuffle along a ledge and wave at her classmates. Her alarmed teacher helped her scramble back in through the window. That's the day she became "that crazy blonde" at John Marshall High School.
Sally was a woman of her times, a quintessential "Flower Child" and free spirit, digging the music and happenings of the emerging counterculture. She and a cousin even spent the Summer of 1968 working in Carmel, Calif., which was only a two-hour drive from the nexus of the hippie movement and the rest of the world - the Haight Ashbury in San Francisco.
Her only child, Kelly, arrived in 1976, and was the focus of her life. Sally's Christian faith gave her solace during the short time that disease riddled her body.
Her grandchildren (Logan, Kynzie and Ryan) gave her the most joy after her retirement as a financial administrator.
Apart from her son and grandchildren, Sally leaves a younger sister (Laura) and three younger brothers (Gregory, Michael and L. Leon).
Of all the people you've ever known, no one was like Sally.
