Sally Patrick Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Douglass Funeral Home - Lexington on Feb. 15, 2025.
Sally L. Patrick
Sally L. Patrick, a forty-four-year resident of Lexington, died on January 23, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Marjorie (Crocker) Handy and late William H Lewis Jr. Sally grew up in West Barnstable on Cape Cod. She studied French in college, earning her bachelor's degree from Pembroke College in Brown University. After graduating, she moved to Cambridge, MA and worked at the Center for International Studies at MIT.
Upon marrying, she and her husband Gerry moved to Belmont and then to Lexington. Sally was active in early childhood education, volunteering at the elementary school, supervising the town Recreation Department's preschool drop-in center, and eventually becoming a preschool teacher at the Unitarian Cooperative Nursery School at First Parish Church, a job she held for nearly twenty years. As an educator and mom, she had a deep mental catalog of arts and crafts projects and co-authored a book, Month by Month Treasure Box: Crafty Things to Do With Young Children. She enjoyed needlepoint and quilting and her group of friends who would gather monthly to visit over their handiwork. She was actively involved in the Lexington PTO, the Rising Star Quilters Guild, and Follen Church.
Trips around New England were always a summer highlight, most often to coastal Maine with Gerry, Campobello Island with her mother, and Lake Winnipesaukee for 50 straight years only broken by COVID. She loved to swim and then settle into a Tony Hillerman novel at the beach.
Sally was predeceased by her husband of fifty years Gerard Patrick and her younger brother William Lewis III. She is survived by her daughter Amanda Patrick and her husband Joseph Stein and by her son Owen Patrick and his wife Christina. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, her half-sister Heather Hinckley and her step-sister Lisa Standish and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial gathering will be scheduled at a later date to celebrate Sally's life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to LexFUN, which grants preschool scholarships and supports community initiatives serving preschool-aged children in Lexington.
