Sally Lynn Settles

Sally Lynn Settles, 81, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on 12/29/25 at the Raclin Hospice House in Mishawaka. She was born 7/12/1944 in South Bend, IN to Richard L. and Dorothy L. Stitzel (DeMass) (now deceased).

She graduated from Mishawaka High School and retired from Saint Joseph Hospital of South Bend after many years of exemplary service in the environmental services department.

Sally is survived by her sister Nancy Orszulak (Larry) of Mishawaka and her three children: son, Michael R. Higgins (Doris), and daughters, Michelle Dies (Todd) and Dawn M. Settles. She was especially proud of her children and their achievements, each one completing a college education and overcoming poverty's hardships. She has 5 grandchildren: Madeline Higgins, Luke Higgins, Evan Dies, Aaron Dies and Ryleigh Podojil. Sally adored her newest family member, great-granddaughter, Maple (Ryleigh).

She also loved animals of all kinds throughout her life, including her current kitties, Piper, Pookey, and Phoebe and any raccoons or wild turkeys who came into her backyard. Sally loved the smell of fresh lilacs and peonies and enjoyed doing a bit of gardening from time to time.

She was an avid grocery shopper at Martin's and Dollar General and enjoyed finding bargains at Goodwill and yard sales. Her love of the water led her to beaches on Lake Michigan and Galveston, TX where she dipped her toes in the water and enjoyed the sand under her feet.

Memorial contributions to honor Sally's life can be made to Meow Mission, a charity close to her heart.
