Sally Treuting Obituary

Sally Lambeth England Treuting passed away peacefully on September 4th, 2024, in Alexandria, VA. She was born in 1940, in Charlotte, NC, to former Mayor Charles Edward Lambeth and Sally Cothran Lambeth. Growing up in Charlotte with her brother Chuck, she developed her lifelong passions for tennis and swimming fueled by a none too subtle competitive streak. She loved spending summers in the North Carolina mountains, and was always proud of her Tarheel roots. She graduated from Converse College in 1962. While there, she was elected Student Body President her senior year and gained fame for persuading local police to deliver pizzas to the dorms after hours. After college she worked for regional department store Ivey's as a buyer, ultimately landing in Jacksonville Florida where in 1964 she met and married Lieutenant Norton "Booty" England III. A Naval aviator, Booty was stationed in the Mediterranean aboard the USS Saratoga aircraft carrier. Her adventurous spirit led her to follow him from port to port throughout the region in a VW bug. After Booty left the Navy, the couple moved to Metairie, LA, where Sally spent most of her life and raised three daughters. She was a maternal figure and friend to many of their peers, neighbors and anyone who would heed her advice. Sally was active at her children's school, and was especially proud to have established the Brownie and Girl Scout programs, serving as troop leader for all three of her daughters. When her girls were in high school, she began teaching at Metairie Park County Day School. For more than 30 years her infectious energy, enthusiasm and genuine affection touched the lives of countless children and co-workers in a variety of classes, subjects and on the athletic fields. In 1987, she married Richard "Dick" Treuting, and they were together for nearly 30 years. With Dick, she found her most treasured role as a grandmother. Between their two families, they were blessed with 17 grandchildren and she loved them all dearly. She relished spending her weekends at the baseball or soccer field and opening her home to host large dinners with extended family. A life-long athlete, she claimed many local tennis titles and later became a record-holding Senior Olympian in swimming and biking. Her family loved her cooking, especially her "world famous" jambalaya, Vah-Vah cookies and Oreo pie. Although dementia robbed her of her memory in these last years, she always kept her positive nature. Despite these challenges, she continued to greet every day and every person with a smile and a loving gesture and that is how we will remember her. She is survived by her daughters, Sally England Lynn (Charles "Jay") of Greenville, SC; Elizabeth England Siegel (John) of Alexandria, VA; and Anne England Wall (Stacy) of New York City; five grandchildren John "Jack" Siegel, Lucille "Lucy" Siegel, Boschen "Bo" Siegel, Charles "Charlie" Wall, and Thomas Wall, as well her brother Charles Lambeth. A celebration of her life will be held in New Orleans at a future date.

Dear Sally, Elizabeth, and Ann,
I´m am so sorry to belatedly hear the sad news of your mom´s passing. She was such a wonderful person! From letting our whole family stay in your back guest house for months to taking me on as a tennis partner and friend, she was always so gracious and friendly. I will have fond memories of her, including my last visit with her for lunch in Madisonville. She was always so cute and smartly dressed!
Although I have missed her these past few years, I know my mom was glad to see her again last September.
With love,
LuLu Welborn Reisman

To Sally, Elizabeth & Anne. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. She was the most amazing woman! I think of her and all of y´all every year as we decorate our Christmas tree with the ornaments she painted so many years ago. Of course one of my favorite memories is the summer we filled a blue plastic baby pool with tadpoles upstairs in one of y´all´s bedrooms. She never yelled at us or got mad...she just shook her head and laughed.

Mrs. Treuting was one of my favorite teachers at Country Day, and I remember her daughters babysitting me and my sisters. Mrs. Treuting had such a wonderful smile and laugh. She set me at ease every time I walked into her classroom. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. Lots of love to y'all.

Sally was such a dear, dear person & friend. She looked for & found the best in everyone, & her southern charm & grace left an indelible mark on those lucky enough to have known her. Sally had such an infectious smile; she was the perfect hostess & a great cook. Playing tennis with her was such a treat! I always watched in awe as she glided effortlessly on the court, winning just about every point, &, if you were her doubles partner, finding a way to offer praise no matter how badly you played. I, along with countless others, will miss this wonderful friend!
