Melanie Mary Treuting passed away on February 9, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and faithful servant, Melanie lived a life defined by compassion, leadership, and unwavering dedication to others.

She was the beloved wife of David F. Treuting, with whom she shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service. She was the proud and loving mother of Nicole Curry and her husband John Curry, married 25 years, and Christopher Treuting and his wife Sarah Treuting, married 21 years. She was a cherished grandmother to David Patrick, Noel, Jacob, Katharine, and Leah, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.

Melanie was the daughter of the late Walter Thorn III and the late Marion Thorn. She is survived by her siblings: Robert (Cindy) Thorn, Diane (Jimmy) Bullias, Walta Ann Heideman, Jean (Michael) Koch, Marcelle (Johnny) Waguespack, and Maureen Pierce. She was preceded in death by her in-laws, the late Francis Treuting and the late Corinne Treuting, and is survived by Beth Hall, Steve (Debbie) Treuting, Ann Treuting, and Jimmy (Karen) Treuting. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will remember her warmth, strength, and generous spirit.

Melanie began her career as an educator shortly after graduating from the University of New Orleans. Teaching was not simply a profession-it was her calling. She fostered a lifelong love of learning and devoted herself to teaching, coaching, and mentoring countless students and families. Her passion for education extended beyond the classroom and into every aspect of her life.

As a proud military spouse for over 30 years, Melanie served in numerous volunteer and leadership roles supporting the military community. She was a steadfast source of encouragement and guidance to soldiers and their families, mentoring and uplifting military spouses around the world. Her service included roles as a Child Development Center Director, where she shaped programs that nurtured young children and supported military families.

Deeply grounded in her Catholic faith, Melanie served as a Catholic Religious Education teacher, Sacrament preparation teacher, and altar sever training coordinator. She was a parishioner of Divine Mercy Catholic Church where her faith was evident in her actions, her kindness, and her devotion to her parish community. She also gave generously of her time as a fitness instructor and as a Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts leader, inspiring discipline, teamwork, and confidence in young people.

Melanie will be remembered for her boundless energy, her servant's heart, and her ability to make everyone feel valued and loved. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched-through education, faith, service, and family. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her example of strength, grace, and unconditional love.
