Debra Gennaro Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Audubon Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Slidell on Feb. 13, 2026.
Debra "Debby" Ann Bird Gennaro, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on January 6, 2026, surrounded by family, at the age of 71. She was born on October 4, 1954 in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she was raised. Debby was preceded in death by her adoring parents, Charles Melvin Bird and Betty Belange Bird. She is survived by her siblings, Charles Bird Jr. (Diane), Gary Bird (Cynthia), and Lisa Bird Cooley (Bobby).

Debby was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 36 years, Anthony Gennaro Sr. Together, they built a life that taught and celebrated love and dedication to each other as well as their family and friends. They provided a blueprint and legacy that will guide and live on in every person who had the honor of loving them and being loved by them.

Debby is the beloved mother of Danielle Monchgesang (Jesse). She is also the cherished stepmother of AJ Gennaro Jr. (Connie), Dennis Gennaro (Andree), Gwyn Horrell (Walter), Lisa Gennaro (Grady), and Gina Tullos (Bill); adored grandmother (lovingly called"Grana") of Ethan (Lexie), Lily(Landry), Adam, Austin (Allie), John, Bradley (Andree), Matthew (Jenna), Spencer, Lauren, Megan, Chris, Joseph, Jacob, Madison, Kamryn, Sarah, and Stephen; and great-grandmother of Sydney, Dylan, Nathan, Audrey, Silas, Abigail, Lennox, Gemma, Eleanor, Danielle, David, Wesley, and Cameron.

Debby graduated from Abramson High School in New Orleans and enjoyed classes at Loyola and University of New Orleans before starting her career at Deluxe Check printing. After a move to Slidell, she began what became her career, hobby, and love outside of her family helping countless people in her community in banking. She began her career at Citizens Bank where she met her future husband and began her best friendship with Debbie Homburg. Though the bank had many changes in names, Debby continued to build relationships with customers and a banking family who she adored. She ultimately retired from Chase Bank.

Debby's greatest hobby was taking care of her family and friends with a loyalty and love that was unmatched. Whether it be helping to raise a family with her daughter and beloved son-in-law, bringing everyone together for "Family Christmas", extending family love to friends that became family, such as Meredith and the Homburgs (Mark, Mike, and Meaux), or special outings with her work family, Debby showered everyone with her love, thoughtfulness, and unwavering support. She leaves behind a legacy to all of us she touched and we hope to continue to that in our lives. She will be greatly missed by all who know and loved her.

Debby will be laid to rest at a graveside service in Rose Memorial Park Cemetery in Hammond, Louisiana, on February 21, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Hospita l as she did in life. Debbie will be sorely missed. I haven´t seen her for many years but she was always a kind and loving person with a great sense of humor. Condolences to Danielle and family, as well as all who knew her.
