Sally Verwey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Aug. 14, 2025.

Milton, VT

Sally VerWey, 69, born to Alma and Albert Bissonnette in Burlington on April 2, 1956, went to be with the Lord on August 11, 2025 after a "princess-warrior" hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.

Sally graduated from Winooski H.S. in 1974. She then went out to California with her best friend Sue and met her future husband, Russell VerWey, having three children together, Misty, Daniel, and Christopher. Sally went to Essex Tech Center for dental assisting, eventually working for Mark Keydel Family Dentistry for 42 years.

Sally loved to travel each year to various islands and scenic locations. Sally liked going to the casino and to bingo, where she met many special friends. Sally loved her pets, always having dogs and cats, even ferrets and an iguana! She loved her dogs Rudy and Remi; cats Muskrat (r.i.p. this year) and Kitty-Girl. Sally enjoyed many special moments at the Eagles in Milton where she had her bestie Nancy and many friends that she loved so much, the American Legion, and the Elks Club. Sally played Scrabble every night with her son Chris, and had many special moments with her son Dan and wife Penny. She loved her grandchildren Joseph and Courtney so much; Dan and Penny's family, and the adults and grandchildren that she loved so much . Sally loved her brother Larry and was amazed by him and how talented he was, she was his biggest fan. Mom had a big family of Bissonnettes and Bashaws and cousins who were more like brothers and sisters to Sally.

Sally was a faithful church member and a Daughters of Isabella member for decades. Sally volunteered and cut hair for patients at the Respite House in Colchester. She touched so many people's lives and will surely leave behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness.

Sally is survived by her sons Daniel and Christopher; Daniel's wife Penny and her family; her 3rd son, Justin Bissonnette; Sally's loving brother Larry, her many cousins, her boss of 42 years Mark Keydel, and all of her coworkers and patients, and an uncountable number of friends.

Sally was predeceased by her daughter Misty; father of her children, Russell VerWey; her special cousins Elaine Bissonnette and Jane Schuster, her parents, and many aunts and uncles.

Special thanks to the parish of St. Ann's Church in Milton and Fr. Curtis Miller for all of his blessings and visits to her at the hospital, St. Albans Rehab for helping her gain her strength back to come back home, and the home health nurses for their care for Mom during this past month.

Visiting hours will be held at LaVigne Funeral Home, Winooski on Monday, August 18, from 5pm-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 19, at 11:00am at St. Francis Xavier Church in Winooski. Burial will be held later at the convenience of the family.
