Mr. Salvatore P. Cimino, 92, of Holliston MA and formerly of Milford MA died Monday (January 12, 2026) at the Milford Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Bette J. (York) Cimino.
Sal was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Frank L. Cimino and the late Lottie (Spiegel) Cimino. He attended Milford public schools, graduating from Milford High School, Class of 1951.
Sal was a proud veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1956.
Sal was first employed as a young man for the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company working at the Milford location as manager of the meat department. He then went on to become the regional manager of their various stores and eventually regional manager of their meat plant located in Marlboro MA.
Sal had been given a keen interest in politics at an early age due to his father's involvement in local politics. That led him to be involved in local politics by first serving as a Milford town meeting member and as a member of the Milford School Committee. He then served as State Representative for the Milford area from 1978 to 1980, where he was the first freshman legislator to be named "Legislator of the Year" by his colleagues, an honor he took great pride in.
Following his term as State Representative Sal began working as an investigator for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Transportation, working from 1981 to 2002. He also owned & operated Cimino's Market located in Milford from 1981 to 1990.
Sal continued his involvement with his beloved Milford community by serving as a member of the Milford Board of Selectmen and a member of the Milford Sewer Board, as well as numerous other town boards & committees. He also had served as a member of the Geriatric Authority Board of Trustees.
Sal was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Milford MA and a proud member of the Italian-American Veterans Post #40 of Milford MA and the VFW. He also was a member of the Hoboken Citizens Club of Milford. As a younger man he had volunteered as a coach for the Milford Little League Baseball and a volunteer for the Milford Boy Scouts Troop.
Along with his beloved wife of 66 years, he is survived by his 3 children: David Cimino of Upton MA, Lori Dunlavey and her husband Michael Dunlavey of Bellingham MA and Amy Kelley of Holliston MA; his daughter-in-law: Lynn Nelson of Yarmouthport MA; his 8 grandchildren: Jessica Gallen and her husband Matt of Hudson MA, Marissa Rosenberg and her husband Dave of Westwood MA, Sarah Dunlavey and her fiancé Donnie of Londonderry NH, Donnie Nelson of Portland ME, Brendan Kelley and his fiancée Katie of Newport News VA, Michael Dunlavey and his wife Shaina of Holden MA, Ally Kelley of Holliston MA and Devin Kelley of Holliston MA; also his 4 great grandchildren: Liam Gallen, Stella Gallen, Eliana Rosenberg & Peyton Dunlavey; also several nieces, nephews & cousins.
Sal was the father of the late Salvatore F. "Terry" Cimino who died in 2025 and the grandfather of the late Craig Nelson who died in 1999.
His funeral will be held Saturday (January 17th) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Friday (January 16th) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.
