Obituary of Salvatore L. Mangiafico III
Salvatore Leo Mangiafico III, 55, of Cromwell, CT, passed on to Heaven on November 19, 2025 after a long illness. He was born in Danbury, CT and lived most of his life in
Glastonbury, CT.
Sal was predeceased by his father, Salvatore Mangiafico, Jr. and is survived by his loving mother, Jeannette, who cared for him tirelessly during the final months of his life. Her devotion, strength, and unconditional love were a constant source of comfort to Sal. Jeannette's dedication stands as a testament to the profound bond they shared.
Sal also leaves behind his cousin and godfather, Mark Mangiafico, as well as his step brothers, step sisters and their spouses: Kristin and Marlon Shields, Jeannie and Brian Maitland, Rich and Paula Erickson, and David Erickson - along with cherished nieces and nephews: Katie, Alex, Jack, Cameron, Nina, Chase, Matthew, and David. Their presence in Sal's life meant a great deal to him.
He leaves behind a legacy defined by an appreciation of the things that made life rich and meaningful. Deeply proud of his Italian heritage, Sal embraced family traditions, good food, and the joy of gathering with the people he loved most.
Sal was a graduate of Glastonbury High School. Following graduation, he attended culinary school and worked at W.B. Cody's Restaurant in Bloomfield, CT. He thrived in the energy and camaraderie of the kitchen, finding pleasure in creating delicious meals for others to enjoy. He was an accomplished cook (never touching a microwave!) and his passion for food and fine dining was lifelong.
Sal then attended the Porter and Chester Institute, where he studied CAD/CAM design. He went on to work for several years at Berlin Steel, putting his technical knowledge and computer skills to meaningful use.
Sal had a curious mind and a vast knowledge of the world. He was a passionate nightly Jeopardy! contestant at home, playing along with impressive skill. He also loved anime and movies, sharing his favorites and recommendations with family, sparking lively conversations. Some of Sal's happiest moments were spent at his stepbrother David's farm in upstate New York. There, on the porch overlooking a vast and peaceful stretch of land, he treasured Thanksgivings spent with family - savoring the view, petting the many family dogs, and enjoying the kind of stillness that made him feel at peace.
Those who knew Sal will remember his big heart and loyalty to the people in his life. He valued family and friends above all else. The love and appreciation he gave so freely will remain forever and he will be deeply missed by all.
His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Cromwell Police Department, whose compassionate assistance during Sal's passing provided comfort and support during an incredibly difficult time.
They also wish to give special thanks to Sal's kind and caring neighbors at Cromwell Hills Condos: Amy, Chris, and Justin. Their watchfulness and support helped Sal remain in his home and truly exemplified what it means to be good neighbors.
