Salvatore Mannino Obituary
May 16, 1934 – February 15, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Salvatore Mannino, who peacefully passed away at his home on February 15, 2025, at the age of 90. Sal was born in Graniti Sicily, Italy on May 16, 1934 to Carmelo and Carmela Mannino (Magno). He was the youngest of nine children (Antonia, Rosa, Emilia, Maddalena, Sylvia, Josephine, Caterina and Giuseppe).
Salvatore enjoyed telling stories of his childhood and his memories of growing up in Sicily. He delighted in the simple pleasures of walking through his town eating fresh fruit and olives from the trees. He served two years in the Italian Army. He became a master barber in Italy before immigrating to the United States in 1961. He soon became known in Center City Philadelphia as "Sal the Barber" and earned many loyal customers for his skilled work and warm demeanor. He had the honor of being chosen to appear at the opening night of the opera, "The Barber Di Seville" at the Academy of Music. He was also named by Philadelphia Magazine for "Best Shave" in the Best of Philly edition. Sal worked with dedication until the age of 86, when he retired.
Upon arriving in Philadelphia, Sal met his future wife, Domenica "Mimi" Bucca. They were married in Atlantic City at St. Michael's Church in August of 1962. They shared 62 years of love, laughter, and family. They did everything together as they lived out their own love story. They made each other better. Sal and Mimi raised their two daughters in Southwest Philadelphia before moving to the RiverWinds in New Jersey in 2004.
Sal was a devoted husband to his wife Mimi, loving father to his daughters, Giovanna Guevara (Alex) and Tina Small (Christopher), and an adoring grandfather to his five grandchildren (Dominick, Mario, Julia, Emma and Anthony). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and good friends. Salvatore was a warm and humble man with a smile that lit up a room. He was a man of great character. He had a loving heart, a tender touch, a caring soul, and a great sense of humor. He was selfless, caring and a courageous fighter. He was a man of few words but those that he spoke were wise. He was a faithful follower of our Lord Jesus. He loved and cherished his family. His life, was indeed, a life well lived.
Sal will be remembered for his dedication to family, his passion for his craft, and his ability to bring joy and comfort to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Salvatore's viewing on Saturday, February 22nd from 9:45 am. – 10:45 am., in Sts. Peter and Paul R.C. Church – 362 Ganttown Road, Turnersville, NJ 08012, where a Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am. Interment Private. Family and friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon at 12:30 PM at Terra Nova Restaurant 590 Delsea Dr. Sewell, NJ 08080 to celebrate Sal's life. https://www.terranovawineanddine.com
