Sam Leon “Sammy” Pratt, Jr. age 73 of Columbia, TN passed away June 25, 2024. He was born in Williamson Co., TN at the Dan German Hospital. He was a lifelong member of Peytonsville Church of Christ and Southern Hills Church of Christ. Sam attended Harpeth School, Thompsons Station, Bethesda and was a 1968 graduate of Franklin High School. He also received his associate degree from Columbia State Community College. Sam attended Tennessee Tech and the University of Tennessee in Nashville. In 1970 the US Army National Guard called upon him and he served for six years until 1976. Sammy worked for Kennon Construction Co. and Century Construction in his earlier years. He grew up on a tobacco and cattle farm and learned quickly what hard work was all about. In 1976 he started Pratt Builders Inc. He built many homes and developed many lots for local custom builders alongside his father and son. Sammy had a deep love for his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting, fishing, gardening and camping with his family and friends. He was also a huge Tennessee Vols Fan. Sammy was a hardworking and honest man who provided well for his family. His smile and handshake will never be forgotten. Sammy is preceded in death by his father, Sam L. Pratt, Sr. and many other loving family members. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carolyn Holt Pratt; son, Sam L. “Trey” Pratt III and his wife, Ashley Averett Pratt; daughter, Frances “Fran” Pratt Blackard and her husband, Charles “Charlie” Galloway Blackard IV; grandchildren, Ellie Averett Pratt, Samuel Sladen “Slade” Pratt and Embree Louise Blackard; mother, Lois Adams Pratt; sister, Gayle Pratt Cost and her husband Terry Cost; nephews, Daniel, Micah and Ben Cost; uncles, Doug Pratt and his wife Hazeline and Paul Pratt, Sr. and his wife Betty and other loving family members. Funeral service will be held 11:00AM Monday, July 1, 2024 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home. In pure Sammy fashion, he'd love to see all of us there in UT Orange!! Scott Bond and Dan Cottrell will officiate. Burial will follow at Williamson Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Paul Pratt, Jr., John Pratt, Allen Pratt, Alvin Pratt, David McGee, Sam McGee, Arthur Henry, Tom Reed, Charlie Reed, John Pratt Reed, Pete Crutcher and Alan Brakebill. Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel, Micah and Ben Cost. Memorials may be made to Peytonsville Church of Christ or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Visitation will be 2-5PM Sunday and one hour prior to the service at WILLIAMSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 615-794-2289. www.williamsonmemorial.com
