Samuel Baker Obituary

Samuel Gerald Baker III, 74, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at home surrounded by his family.

Samuel (Sam) was born on September 24, 1948, in Manchester, New Hampshire to the late Samuel Gerald Baker, Jr. and Jacqueline Baker. He graduated from Marian High School in Barre, Vermont, where he played basketball and assisted as an altar server at St. Monica's Catholic Church.

After graduation, Sam was drafted into the United States Army in January 1969, where he served as a Platoon Sergeant, earning a Bronze Star during the conflict in Vietnam. After his honorable service to our nation, he returned to Vermont where he married Rhonda George and earned an Associates Degree from Hesser College. Sam worked as a security guard and on various area ski patrols, and was dedicated to his volunteer work with The Special Olympics. Sam married Tammy Richer on December 18, 2010, and they made their home in Manchester, NH, where she cared for him during his long battle with cancer.

Sam was a kind and gregarious man who easily made friends with everyone he met. Sam loved our nation and was a fan of the Red Sox and the Patriots sports teams.

Sam is survived by his wife, Tammy (Richer) Baker, daughters, Kate (Andrew) Demers and Kristine (Brian) Looney, and son, Samuel (Lisa) Baker IV, his stepdaughter Alicia Medugno, his eight beloved grandchildren, and his sisters, Sandra (Brent) Whitcomb and Laurie (Frank) Sienko.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 5 - 8 p.m. at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, in Manchester, at which time a time of remembrance will be held. Kate, very sorry about the recent loss of your Dad! Cancer does not seem to discriminate among young , old , or otherwise healthy folks. Very strong resemblance facially, maybe that's where you inherited your energy! Sincere condolences to you and your family! PJ
